Module 3

This model, we initiated our prototype while breaking down the activities as we went along.

Activity 1

The Arduino code to test that the four inputs were connected and working. Initially connecting the Arduino to the computer to begin testing. Starting out small and testing one knob. Now testing with two knobs. We also reformatted the Arduino wiring to keep it clean. We wanted to keep it neat as we would be putting this on our cardboard prototype. Full formatting with four knobs and a button, all functional and connected with the Arduino code.

Activity 2

The initial prototyping was done by testing with an LED, and ensuring that the rest of the knobs did not affect the LED. The LED button worked separate from TouchDesigner and the knobs. Integrating the Neopixel onto the breadboard. After implementing the proper to affect the lighting based on value, we began testing. Turning the knob to test if the colours would change and to ensure it went through all colour values included. The code associated with the Neopixel function, alongside the knobs and the button.

Activity 3

After getting peer feedback, we pivoted towards having the graphics be nature based. This was the first implementation of adding chops and tops to TouchDesigner. Previously, the DAT to CHOP was not connected to the 3 different inputs. We were able to connect them here. We uploaded .mp4 files to TouchDesigner to get the initial graphics down. Then came the issue of switching in between movie files with the knob. We did this by creating a string of chops and tops to switch between files. Turning the knob to switch between values and video files.

Activity 4

Figuring out if the videos are connected to the audio comps properly. Trying to check if the audio issue was in the parameters and values for the switch comp. Same activity as the last, just showing off a different tab. Solving the issue by getting rid of the audio outs. Putting an audio out after the switch.

Activity 5

Making sure the audios were in the correct order for the select. Changing the baud rate to line up with the Arduino code and making sure the Arduino was connected. Setting up the volume knob range. Change the volume on the audio out chop.

Activity 6

When testing Touch Designer with the Neopixel inputs, we found an error was occurring that messed up the whole file. After some trouble shooting, we found that the best fix for it was to separate the 4 values into different columns and channels so they would act independently from each other. Once we employed this fix, we just needed to restart Touch Designer and everything was working together seamlessly.

Physical prototype construction

These are process photos I took as I furnished the prototype through the weeks. These are pictures of the process Jesse went through as he implemented the circuitry into the prototype.
